How Windy Hill Foundation Works

Windy Hill is proud to have a dedicated, energetic group of volunteers who give their time and generous spirit to the residents of Windy Hill. Volunteers efforts are as diverse as providing assistance with our annual Gala, which brings in nearly half of our yearly budget, to helping elementary school students with their math homework or cooking meals for seniors. Windy Hill counts on others to help us fulfill our mission and we hope to count on you!

  • Tutoring

If you can devote an hour and a half of your time once or twice a week during the school year, you will be able to make a difference in a young child’s life. Our Study Buddies help with reading skills, math, science, and anything else our children learn in elementary school. Keep in mind, though, that Study Buddies often lose their hearts to their new friends.

Our Study Buddy Program currently runs Mondays and Thursdays, from 3:00 – 4:00pm at Banneker Elementary. This program provides one-on-one homework help as well as reading and math reinforcement activities.

  • After-School Activities

Volunteers are needed to help with the children of all ages, Fridays from 3:30-5:30pm at the Llewellyn Village Community Room.Help with homework, and social activities for all children living at the Windy Hill housing communities is needed on a regular, on-going basis. Networks, our computer lab, also needs volunteers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:40-5:40pm for Middle School-age children at Blue Ridge Middle School. Tutors work with up to five chidren, providing homework help. In addition, guest speakers are always needed to speak to children on a wide-range of subjects.
Our after-school activities currently run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 3:00 – 6:45 p.m.

  • Senior Programs

Assistance with the seniors at Levis Hill is needed in many different areas. We need volunteers to assist with social activities such as Bingo, the Walking Club, escorting on community field trips, supporting seniors as they shop for groceries or run other errands and the Breakfast Club. We also need volunteers on Monday nights to help bag, pack and transport donated bread from the Panera Bread in South Riding. Pick up is from 9:45-11:00pm.
We can accommodate your schedule for Senior Programs.

  • Friday’s Feast

Friday’s Feast provides meals every other Friday for families who reside at Windy Hill and Levis Hill House. Volunteers are asked to prepare dinner for six families at a time. Each family consists of one to three persons, and our “chefs” are invited to supply meals twice a year.

Please contact our Resident Services Coordinator, Claire Louis, at clouis@whdc.org or 540.687.3273 for more information.

  • Raise the Paddle

Help us create an emergency fund to cover the basic needs of families experiencing a financial burden during COVID-19. We know the effects of the pandemic will be with us for many months ahead. Our goal is to have our residents remained housed, with access to basic utilities (including making sure families have internet access) and adequate resources. Your donation of any amount will go toward helping the residents of Windy Hill stay healthy and remain in their own homes during the pandemic.

Windy Hill Foundation is taking extra steps to support our residents during this challenging time. Thanks to our valued partners in Loudoun and Fauquier, we are making sure our residents have access to food, assistance with basic needs, and we are doing what we can to protect the health of the older and more vulnerable residents.
