In addition to providing safe and affordable housing, Windy Hill’s Resident Services team works every day to ensure that our residents have access to essential resources, enrichment opportunities, and overall well-being.
This season, two of our community partners: Women Giving Back and Loudoun Hunger Relief, had a tremendous impact on the lives of our individuals and families, demonstrating how powerful compassionate collaboration can be. This November, our Windy Hill team had the privilege of connecting one of our residents to Women Giving Back for a store visit for clothes. Women Giving Back is an extraordinary organization dedicated to helping women and children in crisis by providing clothing, personal essentials, and supportive resources at no cost. Their mission is rooted in dignity, empowerment, and hope, ensuring that families experiencing hardship can access what they need to move forward with confidence. The resident shared, “Being at the WGB shop, I felt so much joy seeing women come together to support one another and our children. It showed me how powerful kindness and community can be, and how even helping in small ways can make a big difference in someone’s life.”
Thanks to this partnership, our resident was able to receive essential items for herself and her children, bringing comfort and relief a few weeks before the holiday season. The resident said, “I was able to get a lot of winter clothing for all my kids, and it was very helpful! I found long sleeves, pants, jackets, a vest, and even long-sleeve baby clothes and stocking hats.” She added, “The kindness we received has been a blessing. It helped me and my children stay warm during this season, and for that we are deeply grateful.” What might have been a stressful time was instead transformed into a moment of reassurance as she prepared for the months ahead with the necessities her family depend on. The resident expressed how meaningful the visit was, noting that “The girls were so excited to get new clothes!” The impact was immediate and heartfelt, reflecting the incredible role Women Giving Back plays in strengthening families. The resident shared, “I think that community unity means helping and lifting each other up and sharing kindness to others! It’s about being there for one another in times of need.”
We also continued our meaningful collaboration with Loudoun Hunger Relief, an organization committed to ensuring that no family in our community goes without healthy, nutritious food. Loudoun Hunger Relief works hard to provide fresh groceries, emergency food support, and ongoing assistance to residents facing food insecurity. Through their efforts, families not only receive immediate nourishment but also experience dignity, stability, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing their community cares.
This Thanksgiving, and for the past couple of years, Loudoun Hunger Relief has partnered with Windy Hill to offer residents thoughtfully prepared Thanksgiving bags, each filled with a variety of holiday side dishes and a gift card for a protein of their choice. This gave families the opportunity to prepare a holiday meal that reflected their traditions and tastes. Another resident, Frances Wallace, from Levis Hill House, expressed to the team what these efforts mean to her, especially during the holiday season. Frances mentioned, “It means a lot. It saves us so much money by providing us with all the things we can use for Thanksgiving and the holidays. It’s a miracle that they do that for our community!” These bags mean more than food; they mean celebration, connection, and the joy of sharing a holiday meal at home.
Together, these two partnerships reflect the spirit and strength of Windy Hill’s mission. By working hand in hand with organizations that share our commitment to community well-being, we are able to extend our reach and ensure our residents have access to the resources that help them thrive.
These efforts do more than meet immediate needs; they provide hope, build stability, and reinforce the belief that a caring community can make all the difference. As we look ahead, we remain grateful for partners like Women Giving Back and Loudoun Hunger Relief, whose generosity and collaboration help us create brighter, more supported futures for the families we serve.
