How long have you been volunteering with Windy Hill?

Nearly 20 years ago, I was introduced to WHF by my good friend and mentor, Ann Northrup. I’d known of WHF but had not volunteered until Ann suggested I do so. I’ve served as a Board member, helped raise money for pre-school programs, volunteered with children in the Llewellyn community room, led field trips for children from Washburn Place to Middleburg Humane, and generally tried to make myself useful.

What have been the highlights of volunteering with Windy Hill?

My biggest pleasure is being with the children. I love their energy and curiosity, especially when it involves being outside playing or hiking. I can’t wait to hear what they say and to see their enthusiasm! I also like reading with them and communicating in any way they’d like to do so—by talking, making art, storytelling, craft projects, or playing on the playground.

Why volunteer with Windy Hill?

I was drawn to WHF because I wanted to be connected with our community members. As a busy parent of 3, and the owner of a small business, it was hard to meet people outside the circles I ran in. It mostly involving my children’s myriad activities and homework. However, it made sense that I could learn a lot from the older residents of Levis Hill, as well as the families living at Llewelyn. I especially enjoy the friendships I’ve made with the parents and the other volunteers.
