Dear Windy Hill Friends and Neighbors,
The start of a new year affords us the opportunity to reflect on the past year and look ahead to priorities for the year ahead. As I meet with our residents, community partners, Board members, and staff, it is evident that we continue to make progress in meeting the needs of our under-resourced neighbors.
Below, I’m delighted to share with you a 2024 Year-in-Review that highlights many initiatives and projects that we accomplished together. Your contributions support our mission and have a profound difference in the lives of the families and individuals we serve, ensuring access to safe, affordable housing for those who need it most.
2024 Year-in-Review:
- Provided $50,000+ in financial aid to 10 residents: 6 children, 1 teenager, and 3 adults.
- Provided $20,000+ in emergency requests to ensure that basic needs are met and that no one has to choose between necessities.
- Allocated $270,000+ in maintenance and refurbishments across our 116 homes in Middleburg, The Plains, and Marshall, including renovating four Cottages, our original Windy Hill homes in Middleburg.
- Organized and led over 25 bus trips for senior residents to local destinations, including Buchanan Hall, the Museum of Shenandoah Valley, the State Arboretum of Virginia, Farmers Markets, the Patsy Cline Museum, Oak Spring Garden Foundation, Skyline Drive, and the Bull Run Festival of Lights.
- Provided free weekly after-school programming to 20+ children living in Windy Hill housing.
- Partnered with Bainum Farms to offer weekly fresh produce boxes between June – September to 30 households.
- Hosted 4 Finance 101 courses with Northwest Federal Credit Union focusing on how to build a budget, what is a credit score, and more.
